After graduating from law school, Zach commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s (“JAG”) Corps and served on active duty for over four years.  In that capacity, he prosecuted sailors accused of crimes, including sexual assault and child sexual abuse, defended sailors whom the Navy sought to discharge, gave in-house counsel to commanding officers, and provided legal assistance to sailors, Marines, and their families.

After receiving an honorable discharge and re-entering civilian life, Zach continued his public service as a federal prosecutor at the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice in Washington D.C.  In that capacity, he prosecuted government officials and contractors for violations of constitutional rights across the United States, including in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky as well as numerous other districts from Maryland to New Mexico.  These prosecutions resulted in a number of complex criminal jury trials, all of which resulted in favorable results for the United States.

A Lexington native, Zach returned home in 2020 to serve as the policy advisor, and eventually legislative director, to Governor Andy Beshear.  In 2021, he rejoined the Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Kentucky.  In that role, he once again prosecuted violations of constitutional rights throughout the district, but also prosecuted other criminal violations, including trials for kidnapping and rape, drug possession, and immigration violations.  Zach joined Tachau Meek in July 2025, where he works on a variety of commercial litigation matters.
